Forty miles north of the Butt of Lewis, Sula Sgeir rises alone out of the North Atlantic — a remote, uninhabited island with no fresh water and barely any vegetation beyond wind-scoured turf. It's one of the most isolated corners of the British Isles, yet far from empty: the cliffs and grass slopes host huge colonies of gannets, alongside guillemots, razorbills, and other seabirds that fill the sky in their thousands.

Photographed on a rare clear day, the island's green cap and dark rock stand sharp against deep blue water, birds wheeling overhead in every direction — a glimpse of one of the wildest, least-visited places in Scotland.

Photographed on location north of Sula Sgeir, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.
