Under a sky thick with stars, the Callanish Stones stand exactly as they have for around 5,000 years — silent witnesses to countless nights like this one. A single figure among the stones, torch raised, gives scale to both the ancient monument and the vastness above it: the Milky Way spilling across the darkness, faint traces of the horizon glow far in the distance.
Scott's image won top honours at the second Hebridean Dark Skies Festival Photography Competition in December 2019, with judges praising it as an "original and surprising" take on one of the most photographed landmarks in the Hebrides — a fresh perspective on stones that have stood since before recorded history, under a sky that's been turning long before that.
