The Butt of Lewis marks the northernmost tip of the island, where the Atlantic and the Minch meet head-on against some of the most exposed cliffs in Scotland. The lighthouse, built by David and Thomas Stevenson in 1862, has guided vessels past this headland for over 160 years — a small constant against a coastline that rarely sits still.

This image catches the Butt at its most elemental: waves breaking hard across the reef and rock stacks, spray thrown high into a bruised, storm-heavy sky, the whole scene in motion. The lighthouse stands small and steady on the cliffline at the edge of the frame, a quiet marker of scale against the sheer force of the sea.

Photographed on location in Ness, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.
